Our AWANA group consists of about 100 to 120 kids. Because of the popularity of our church's AWANA program we have had the opportunity to add to our building. We have nearly doubled the classroom space. We hope you will allow us to reach out to your children for Christ our Lord. To find us go to the "Where to find us" webpage.
We have 6 clubs for your child to attend. Our first club is "Cubbies" and is for children age 4 and 5 for boys and girls. Our second is "Sparks" and is for children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade for boys and girls. The next four are known as "Flames". Our third is "Chums" and is for 3rd and 4th grade girls. Our fourth is "Pals" and is for 3rd and 4th grade boys. Our fifth is "Guards" and is for 5th and 6th grade girls. Our sixth is "Pioneers" and is for 5th and 6th grade boys. If your child is in 7th grade through 12th grade then they can go to "Youth Group".
These are pictures from our awards night for our 97-98 year. The one picture is of our "Sparks" and the other is of our "Flames".
Discipline. Good discipline in Awana is required if the program is to be effective. The three count is used for individual misbehavior, "One" is a warning, "Two" gets a talk with the Club Director, and "Three" gets a talk with the Commander, which will result in being sent home.
The five count is used to quiet the entire group of clubbers and has proven to be very effective.
Awards & Uniforms. Awana has designed an extensive award system with uniforms and handbooks to motivate boys and girls to study and learn God's Word.
The importance of the Awana uniform cannot be emphasized enough. Wearing uniforms unifies the clubbers as a group and provides the means for a well-disciplined club. Leaders and clubbers are psychologically knit together by the uniforms, making the leader-clubber relationship much closer. Leaders find greater freedom in counseling their clubbers when both they and their clubbers are in uniform.
The uniform is the backbone of the Awana achievement award system. Awana awards can only be worn on the Awana uniform. No awards will be presented to clubbers not in uniform. The awards lose their significance without a proper place to display them.
Please help your child remember to wear their uniform (once earned) to club each night.
Some Tips for Parents
Communication. Know the name and phone number of your child's handbook leader. Do you have questions concerning something your child has told you about Awana? Is there a problem? Do you suspect a misunderstanding is brewing? Call your child's leader.
If, after talking to your child's leader, the issue is not resolved, talk to the club Director. Still not satisfied? The Awana Commander is the next person in the chain of authority.
"I Can't Find My Awana Handbook." This cry is heard all too often about the time parents are ready to drive their child to church for the Awana Club meeting. A good way to avoid it is to designate a place in your home where the child's Bible and Awana handbook is to be kept. As long as the bible and handbook are put back in their place after studying or going to club, the child will find them easily when the next club night rolls around.
Only 10 Minutes a Day. The average child will be adequately prepared for the weekly Awana Club meeting if he or she spends 10 minutes a day in the club handbook. Studying with your child will help them to develop the 10-minutes-a-day habit. If you develop this habit early in the club year your child should be able to complete their handbook without any problems.
Achievement Levels. New clubbers receive an entrance booklet. It consists of six or seven sections that teach basic bible truths and introduce clubbers to Awana. On completion of the entrance booklet, clubbers may purchase the appropriate uniform and handbook.
Once they start working in the handbook, clubbers first achieve their rank (which includes a Sunday School attendance requirement), then they work on Bible Drills and Activities.
Encourage clubbers not to put off their Activities until late in the club year. They may start work on Activities anytime, even before they complete their rank or Bible Drills. When you first see the entrance booklet or handbook, look through it so you become familiar with what your child is required to do. Help your child work at a pace that will enable him or her to complete the handbook before the end of the club year (April).
Club Cancellations. On nights when we experience or are expected to experience severe weather the decision to hold or cancel club will be made not later than 1PM. Because we have Awana suppers every Wednesday, an early decision is needed. The Commander will notify the radio stations: KEXL-WJAG, 106.7FM - 780AM KNEN 94.7FM and KPNO 90.9 FM. Listen to the radio stations if the weather is questionable.
Dues. We ask each Awana clubber to bring $0.25 weekly dues. This helps us finance the awards, prizes, and special events. We really appreciate your help in sending dues to club for your child. If you prefer, dues may be paid in advance: Monthly - $1.00; Half year - $3.75; Yearly - $7.50.
Awards Night. Handbook completion awards (ribbons an trophies) are presented the last Wednesday of the club year in late April. There is a spaghetti supper followed by a special program. In addition to first and second book ribbons, there are major trophies:
Sparky Plaque - completing all three Sparky Handbooks (2nd graders)
Excellence Award - completing 2 handbooks (4th - 6th graders)
Timothy Award - completing 4 handbooks (6th graders)
Clubber of the year: One boy and one girl selected by the leaders. Based on handbook achievement, recruitment, exceptional cooperation, good sportsmanship, faithful attendance and an overall good attitude.
Sword Club: Any clubber who says a complete section word perfect (with no helps) will have his/her name placed on the Sword Club Roster and receive recognition at Awards Night.
Recycling Program. Newspaper and aluminum cans help support Awana. If you want to help in this way, we'd appreciate it! (leave materials by big door of shed)
